Injury update

Wednesday morning, Trey was sitting in our recliner chair with the leg-rest extended, and he decided to get down from the chair via the leg-rest area. As you may or may not know, the leg-rest thing on a recliner can only support so much weight. So, as Trey was in the process of climbing down, the leg-rest thing collapsed, he fell to the floor, and his left leg kinda got stuck in the chair. He cried and cried, and at first Tina thought that something was wrong with his knee. She got him in to see the pediatrician that afternoon, and the pediatrician recommended that Tina immediately get Trey to the emergency room for x-rays. She did so, and the doctor at the hospital couldn't find any fractures, but he went ahead and put Trey in a splint, as you can see below.

And here's Trey, looking very happy about having his leg immobilized and completely wrapped up.

He called his splint his "big sock," and he kept on poking at it and trying to get it off. He had a hard time going to sleep that night, so we gave him another dose of Motrin and removed the splint (the doctor had apparently said that we could do this if we needed to). Then he slept fine.

The next day, Tina took Trey in to see an orthopedic doctor, who looked at the x-rays and also couldn't find a fracture. But, he thought that there could be a hairline fracture (which is apparently invisible on x-rays until it starts to heal), so he went ahead and put Trey in a cast, as you can see below.

Here's Trey sporting his new "big shoe," as he calls it. At least he can walk on it, provided that he has the walking boot in place.

He's actually gotten pretty comfortable with the cast already, and he's walking around in it pretty well. He'll have it on for almost two weeks; it'll be removed the day before Thanksgiving.

And one last picture, with Trey wearing the hat that Tina knitted for him.

Tina and I have never broken a bone (at least not one that has required a cast, I guess), and here's our 2-year-old, already in a cast. Is this a sign of things to come??

Aww, poor guy! Chance had a walking cast at 2, too! I think it's just one of those things that parents of boys have to deal with. It's good that he's adjusting well to it. The thing I hated was the bathtime ritual! But at least he'll have it off before Thanksgiving. Miss you guys!

Cute cast, and it is even blue. I hope he is feeling better soon.

Oooo, nice cast! I guess the good news is that he won't allow the cast to keep him down, and that could be the bad news too?! I am sure this will be just the beginning of more casts to come.

Big Brother is watching you.
