It's a Boy!
James Russell Mecham was born yesterday, March 29, 2010, at 7:34 a.m., weighing in at 7 pounds, 14 ounces. Mom and baby are doing well. Unlike our other children, James ended up with a pretty full head of very dark hair.

Ongoing Puke-athon
It seems that my last post has had some unexpected consequences, as the children of many of my Facebook friends are now experiencing uncontrollable vomiting. Is it a physiological response to my tale of cookie-tossing, or is it simply the power of suggestion? Discuss.
Our upchucking saga continues, as Trey threw up twice more last night (well, technically, early this morning, but who's counting?), and Tina has informed me of at least one additional hurling this morning. As an added bonus, Trey's episode this morning triggered a bout of vomiting for Tina! I imagine that it was eerily similar to the Barf-o-rama scene from "Stand by Me." Darn you, butyric acid!

Vomit-fest!
Trey and Sadie have both been a bit sick lately. Nothing earth-shattering, just some coughing and runny noses. Then, Sadie threw up in her crib during nap-time a couple of days ago. You see, Sadie has generally not been a big vomiter, but when she decides that she wants to throw up, she really goes all out. So, we had some throw-up fun a couple of days ago, and we wrote it off as an isolated incident related to her cold (or whatever it was). I had to scrub the carpet near her crib in an attempt to rid her room of the smell.
Yesterday, Tina called me at the office and told me that Sadie threw up yet again (also, big-time vomiting). Tina got her and her bed cleaned up. Because of all this, Tina took both the kids to the doctor, whereupon a nurse informed her that Trey has a sinus infection and Sadie an ear infection. (By the way, how can you tell if someone has a sinus infection just by looking up their nose?) The kids got their first doses of antibiotics early that evening.
When I got home, the whole house smelled of Sadie-spew, so I tried to clean the carpet (again) and reduce some of the stench. We put Sadie to bed around 8:30, and darned if she didn't wake up at about an hour later, coughing and throwing up again. Off come the sheets and mattress cover, in goes Sadie to the bathtub. At this point, we decided that Sadie's done with milk, at least until she gets over her ear infection. We got Sadie back to bed by around 10, but Trey was still awake. He had napped a little that afternoon, so he was apparently not tired. He was also busy "helping" me set up our new computer, but Tina and I eventually got him to bed around 10:30 (yes, we're terrible parents).
Not long after Trey went to bed, Tina heard him coughing, and she managed to walk into his room just in time to find him vomiting all over his bed. Yay. Off come the sheets, pillow case, mattress cover, and Trey's pajamas. Trey never liked the "snowman" design on his sheets, so maybe this was his way of getting us to get new sheets on the bed. Fortunately, a complete bathing was not necessary, so we got him back to bed in fairly short order.
Tina and I finally headed to bed at around midnight, only to be reminded that one of the dogs had thrown up in our bed earlier in the day. Off come the sheets, and off to bed we went. That was way more vomit than I ever want to deal with in such a short amount of time.
I think this blog post has set a new record for excessive use of the word "vomit" (or synonyms thereof). Let's hope for a vomit-free day today!
